Henna

Home / glossary / Henna

Henna is a cooling plant traditionally used to adorn the skin in ceremonies of protection, blessing, grief, and transition. Beyond its artistry, it carries antimicrobial and soothing properties, often applied to calm inflamed skin, ease headaches, and cool overheated bodies in warm climates.

In many cultures, henna is more than decoration, it is remembrance painted onto the body. It marks thresholds: weddings, births, farewells, and healing. Its stain fades, but its meaning lingers, a reminder that beauty, ritual, and medicine have always belonged together.
